“Earn $50,000 Per year as a House Spouse” is surely one of the most helpful and enjoyable self-help books that I have read, and I have read many. The person that purchases it, and I see it as a book that one should keep and refer to frequently, will find its information and practical hints of great money saving value.
It would be a mistake to think that Diana Henderson's book is only applicable to a struggling, one income household. As well as dealing with the practicalities of supermarket shopping and budgeting the book explains the basics of such things as insurance, investments, mortgages and buying ones own home.
“Earn $50,000 a year as a House Spouse” is an easy to read book. One can pick it up, open it randomly and the find content quite captivating.
As day to day living is becoming increasingly complicated the need for good, back to basics, information can not be questioned. I am sure there are few books that offer this as well as “Earn $50,000 a year as a House Spouse.”
Earn $50,000 a year as a House Spouse, aims to raise the status of housewives or house husbands by showing people how they can save or make just as much money by staying home instead of going to work.
Mrs. Henderson says she sees many couples in relationships where both partners work in the belief they will be better off. "Often they are not. You often see both partners working and they are going backwards. They don't see the value of living at home."
She says one example of how a housewife can save money is in supermarket shopping.
"People who go to work don't have the time to shop around and look for things they can cook cheaply," she said. Instead, working couples tend to buy expensive convenience foods.
Mrs. Henderson says children also pick up the habits of working parents. "Skills are being lost. Skills like looking after a household and even just basic cooking skills. I hope this book changes people's attitudes because I got sick of being looked down on."

HASTINGS housewife Diana Henderson got so sick of people looking down their noses at her occupation, she wrote a book about it and launched it at the Hawke's Bay Show.
Interview on 'Good Morning'- TV1 (TVNZ), 11 November 2002 In the interview with Mary Lambie Mary noted that "Women particularly are slaving in the house and we, as a society, don't put a lot of value on them." Mayor endorses smart living’ book- Hawke's Bay Today, 25 October 2002 Launching the book, Hastings Mayor, Mr Yule said it covered everything with practical hints for budgeting, dealing with banks, conmen and sharks, paying of the mortgage sooner, and baking. “It s a fantastic resource for families and good for public libraries and schools. “And its even better that someone from Hawke’s Bay wrote it.” Mrs Henderson is well known for her ideas and schemes for making the budget go further. In July she disagreed with an Otago University study which said it cost $245 a week to feed a family of four. Using the supermarket advertising flyers which come though every letterbox, Mrs Henderson worked out that a family of four could be fed well on $130 a week, especially if the vegetables were supplemented with home grown ones or bought from a roadside stall rather than the supermarket. "I love my job - unpaid in tax currency but bountiful in all currencies that matter. Your crusade is worthy, worthily but never alone. "Viva la House Spouse!". I've been keeping busy sewing, preserving, gardening all thanks to you and your very bright book. God bless that book" - Patricia of Gisborne. |
