I read with interest your article "Some Mothers Don’t Have It”.
It intrigues me how most people automatically assume that all women have the
same maternal instincts, when animals don’t. If you have ever breed animals
you will know that some females automatically make marvellous mothers while
others will abandon their offspring at the first opportunity. Many factors can
influence the proportions of maternal to non maternal mothers e.g.
availability of food, water, space, temperature and other stress factors.
Our modern society compounds family problems hugely with the pressures they
bring to bear on mothers. Not only are they given no training for this
important task, women who choose to put their children first and spend time
with them are positively scorned by many as being a boring, dumb doormats that
contribute nothing to society!
